Hey, I’m Jake--the founder and curator of Hygge Hearth Home, a small vintage and antique rug shop that prioritizes the magic intersection of artistry, comfort, and a deep sense of belonging. With a background in Art History, and a decade traveling across the globe as a touring musician, I first became a vintage and antique rug collector, and eventually, accidentally, and rather unexpectedly, found myself happily encouraging others to do the same.
I am honored to curate an exceptional collection of hand-knotted rugs that become a common ground from which we can grow together. We’re better together.
From the very beginning, I’ve viewed the magic of antique wool as a loom for connection. Each conversation about these pieces is a beautiful affirmation of that mission. The rugs themselves are the tools that weave people together; it is our shared love for, appreciation of, and wonder in these works of art that creates connection.
Hygge Hearth Home is committed to sourcing high-quality vintage and antique hand-knotted wool rugs with vibrant colors and patterns. We curate these pieces with a singular intent: to ensure that the enduring beauty of vintage and antique wool is preserved and attainable for a broader audience. I strongly believe that hand-knotted rugs are a gateway for connection: conversation, sharing history and building community. I absolutely love uncovering the stories woven into every knot, discussing the diverse cultures behind these textiles, and connecting with fellow enthusiasts of the art of antique wool. Every shared moment of awe for these pieces is what truly fuels this passion project.
The next greatest joy comes from helping these one-of-a-kind heirlooms find their next chapter. Witnessing these works of art meet their new caretakers is truly the best part of this work. To date, I have specifically avoided a traditional e-commerce website because I prioritize the value of passing off each work of art, hand-to-hand with the next owner. I believe there is profound importance in a caretaker seeing, feeling, and truly being with these weaves in person.
I maintain a rotating collection of fewer than 100 rugs—collaborating with local designers and bringing curated selections to local flea markets and festivals. By focusing on in-person flea markets and private appointments, I prioritize the power of conversation and human connection over the convenience of a transaction.
The conversations we have—about art, history, and finding that one piece that just feels like home—are the true highlight. From sifting through the "treasure box" of minis (one client described it as walking into Ollivander’s Wand Shop!) to unrolling antique runners that take our breath away, the shared joy in these timeless heirlooms is always palpable.
Vintage and antique wool rugs are as functional as they are artistic. Their colors shift throughout the day, interacting with the light in your home to create a living canvas. Beyond their beauty, these pieces offer the practical benefits of longevity, durability, and sustainability—natural, hypoallergenic fibers built to outlast us all.
It has been inspiring to see such a diversity of ages gravitate toward this art, both in person and on social media. Seeing a new generation so curious and excited about vintage wool is a testament to the timelessness of these pieces. It is a powerful reminder that our connection to folk art is a natural instinct that bridges generations.

Planning a surprise proposal for somebody who doesn’t like surprises poses a set of unique challenges. I knew she needed to have her family around (dog included), and it had to be at the cabin.
Courtney and I took a walk down the beach where I used my prepared bullet points to nail the proposal. Just as I got down on one knee, my brother’s drone caught the footage from above. She said yes (nailed it!), and we celebrated with our family over a feast of crab, champagne, and homemade pie.
